Default 2019's big project #1: DIY bathroom renovation

I want to get moving on renovating the hallway bathroom. We're going to do tile on the floor, not vinyl as I'd originally thought to do to save money as well as a tile surround. I have to measure again and make lots of notes. I'm going to have the tub installed by a professional; it's not a one man job.

It looks like I need to get some screws to secure the flooring every 8" and then cover it up with 1/4" cement board - which will in turn need to be screwed down every 8" as well. I'm not sure if the same cement board is called for for the tub surround. I know that there's nothing behind the current fiberglass unit.

First things first, I need to call the plumber and see if he's available to put in a new tub so that I can start doing demolition come next Monday. That means pulling the toilet and vanity and temporarily sealing up the plumbing. I took a look at tiles and confirmed the color with my wife.

Make sure to use modified thin-set between the backerboard and the subfloor as well as when you set the tile. It has a little more give than standard thin-set and should not be quite as brittle.
