Your phone can be a hotspot but you have to pay extra for it

The director of the IT dept said its ok, and beneficial for my wife to do her job.
I'm on the company plan as well.
My daughter can use it on Fridays while we commute to/from arts school. She has to log in to cyber school for 4 to 5 hrs a day m-f. Just killed 2 hrs there in the car!

Yes, you can use a cellular device as a hotspot. I slave my busted iPhone to my Android so that I can use iMessage and Siri while driving. I wouldn't recommend using it as a primary means of wireless connectivity in your home though. Your carrier should hook you up with a certain amount of usage and connected portable devices for use out of the home. As for at home, I'd recommend buying your own wireless router. Don't be like me though. We've been using FiOS here for 6 years paying rent on the same obsolete router and my antivirus has been screaming at me. Maybe one of the experts here can point us in the right direction?

Call Verizon and get a new router. Better yet, switch to Comcast, we just switched and got a $200 gift card, more channels and faster internet (150 down, 75 up).

I definitely need to kick Verizon to the curb.

Ha! At&t set us up with mega-pro-elite-super high speed DSL internet (2.8 down, 0.28 up) for almost $60 a month! What a deal!

Unfortunately, no one else serves the area without four times the cost (patchy cell tower) or high latency (satellite).

Whole house wifi, even on the deck at the table under the umbrella.
I remember 15 years ago that was "experimental" and not offered by cable companies.
Heck, even 6 years ago, I remember "pllugging in."

Dude, I remember it taking 30 days for snail mail to get to my ship from home when there was always a carrier near the Persian Gulf prior to Gulf War I. If we wanted to talk to home we had to wait in line for the HAMM radio. Ain't progress wonderful? I can't decide whether we've become enlightened of soft.
