Reminder: I posted this in another thread, but it's relevant here.

My two favorite sources for nutritional ketosis info:

eatingacademy.org.

Lyle McDonald

Another good site for us challenged guys to at least be aware of is diabeteswarrior.org

Keep up the good work.

I hear you, Tomcat. I finished reading The Art and Science of Low Carb Living and Why We Get Fat and am working on Good Calories, Bad Calories. I've got a copy of the performance book by Phinney and Volek as well. Good stuff.

I never would have believed "Why we Get Fat" if I hadn't already lived it first.

I lost 55 lbs by simply changing what I ate. Didn't worry about the amount of calories, and couldn't be physically active during that period for a variety of reasons, but went from 240 down to 185.

Even when I was active all the time before gaining weight as the recluse domestique, No matter how hard I trained, I could never break into "one-derland" (sub two hundred pounds). I was fit and strong, could mtn bike and paddle all day, but still hanging at 205, obese by gov health standards.

"one-derland" I like that. I haven't been under 200lbs since high school, and even that was only during wrestling season. I half starved myself to get to 189 back then. Otherwise I floated around 210 lbs.

Wow. I'm not sure what I would do if I got down to 185.

Finally back on the plan today. So much of the food that my wife made over the last week was eat or throw out due to the lingering stomach bug in the house. So I went off the plan for a few days dealing with the bug a bit. I do think being in ketosis allowed it to effect me less severely as everyone else. Anyway, I've just cruddy for most of the last week and should be back in ketosis in the next day.

Alright, I've been back on the wagon for a few days now. I tried to get my wife to "diet" with me and that backfired terribly. Not only did she not do it or read any of the material, but I fell back into old habits trying to compromise. She tried, but couldn't make it through the first day. So, I am going to do this for me, and maybe one day she'll come around when I show some serious results.

The best that I could get her to do was Sugar Busters with fruit. She says that she loves fruit too much and can't not eat fruit. She was very put-out when I told her how much carbohydrate many of her favorite fruits had in them--not too mention many of the starchy vegetables (sweet potatoes, corn, carrots) that she likes. Let's just say that it doesn't seem to be working too well for her. She felt that dropping below 50 grams of carbohydrates a day was too extreme.

I couldn't stand the blood sugar spikes, insulin hangovers (sleepiness), the regular feeling of being hungry, and the body aches. I had been feeling like I was 20 years older. I would wake-up to pee multiple times in the night, and in the morning, every joint in my body would ache.

I weighed 287 pounds yesterday. At least I didn't gain back to 310.

One day at a time.

I was on a low-carb article kick today and ran across this...

http://bjjcaveman.com/2014/04/10/upg...-brain-octane/

I found it interesting and noted the possible implications with Seizures, ALS, and Alzheimer's. With my family history, I am definitely looking at the possibility of Alzheimer's disease.

So my wife is stoked on the diet. She lost about 10 pounds in the last two weeks. I'm down about the same. This is so much easier with her on board. Now I've just got to get moved.

Not bad. I've been on and off since we moved. I weighed last week for the first time in three months and had gained only about 3 pounds through out the move and selling the house. I'd usually do good during the week, and then my parents would come out for the weekend and cook biscuits, pasta, or some irresistible dessert that would break my weekend and have me re-starting on Monday.

My wife finally got back on board with me about a week ago. She's a terrible enabler (cooking fish and chips or pizza), so it's been loads easier to stick to with her on plan with me. Clothes are feeling looser. Not as drained in the middle of the afternoon. Seems to be getting better.
