Just finished "Eliot Ness, The Rise and Fall of an American Hero" by Douglas Perry. Mostly known for taking down Al Capone in Chicago, Ness went on to to other great things after that. Cleaning up corruption in the city of Cleveland being first and foremost. The guy had brass balls and really was ahead of his time. Unfortunately, 1 or 2 bad career choices later in life probably contributed to hie early death in his early 50'S.

Here's one that's good for anyone with aging parents, or serious family illness: Being Mortal The author's a Dr. who has many specific examples of how the end of life worked for people, and how we got to the systems we have now for dealing with all that. I really enjoyed his challenging our philosophies about dying, and the history of our solutions for it.

Just finished "Blood Will Out" by Walter Kirn. This is the story within the story of a book I mentioned earlier "The Man in the Rockefeller Suit" which was the true story of a German immigrant who spent decades in the USA masquerading as a Rockefeller and conning people left and right, kidnapping his child after a divorce and also killing at least one person along the way. The Author by chance befriended the con artist and spent a lot of time with him being conned like all the others all that time.

I just read all three Hunger Games novels. I feel like I need to raise my standards because I feel so unfulfilled.

Just finished "Kaiten" by Mike Mair and Joy Waldron. Kaitens were the name of the one man submarine torpedoes that were used like Kamikaze planes in the air by the Japanese in WWII. I had no idea about them. Only 2 were successful at sinking a US ship but some 80 Japanese soldiers died trying. A colossal program failure that like many other programs in the war the Japanese never owed up to. WA, WA, WAAAA!

Just finished "American Vandal, Mark Twain Abroad" by Roy Morris Jr. Interesting read. It captures Twain's travels outside the US that was quite vast. He did most of it as a away to write stories of his travels and get paid to have them published which was how most folks in the U.S. leaned of far away lands back in the later 1800's-early 1900's. The book had a lot of local flavor for me being that there is a lot of writing about his home outside of Hartford, CT. I am making sure I go see the Mark Twain house ASAP since it is less than 30 minutes away from me. He certainly was quite the character.

Just finished "Flight 232" by Laurence Gonzales. It is about the famous Sioux City Iowa crash of a DC-10 in 1989. Given the damage to the aircraft it is amazing only 112 of the 296 aboard perished. I think capt. Sullenburgh's landing in the Hudson pales in comparison.
