I bought some white paint and against my better judgment I took out the front door and put a coat of paint on it. While my right elbow is not hurting most of the time, hauling a solid slab of wood down the front walk and into the garage was ill advised. To make matters worse, the clouds rolled in while I was removing all the hardware so I was committed and had no room to work on our tiny front porch.

I also hit the iron railing with some rust eater. I need to hit it with a wire brush and slap a couple of coats of paint on that too.

May I suggest Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale? I just picked this up the other day. I'm impressed. I only wish mine tasted half as good.

I'm with you on the IPA craze. Elysian makes a Space Dust IPA that's decent, though... and Sam Adams had an IPL (India Pale Lager) that had a good finish... though I have not seen that particular brew in a few years.

Against my better judgment and likely doctorís orders I finished painting the front door and the upper half of the columns on the front porch - which involved hauling a ladder out and lifting it up against the side of the house. The job isnít completely done but I think I am for today; my upper arm is sore from lack of use.

So I showed her what Iíd done and she just took a glance and was ambivalent. I originally wanted to paint the door blue to match the shutters like every other house in the neighborhood but she wanted white.

Chalk this up to ďI just canít win.Ē I will proceed forward with what Iíve planned. It took some elbow grease that I donít have as much of but it got 1/2 a pillar base done. I donít think she noticed it though. If she did, she chose not to express her feelings for it.

Just finished vacuuming. Think I'll clean the master bath and call it a day.

Replaced the striker plates on the front door knob and deadbolt. It turns out the screws on the bolts are stripped so I replaced them with longer drywall screws the flat slate gray color looks ugly but IME the Phillips fitting doesnít strip out like on brass and chrome screws - plus thereís always spray paint; it shouldnít need a primer.

Anyway, the door closes more firmly now - though the weather stripping is due to be replaced.

Meanwhile, I have to get another can of paint for the shutters/front door. I got my sick wife cornered at home and got her approval.

On a less manly note, Iím noting that our home is getting a sort of Penn State (our alma mater) color palette. Iíd like to get a flag for the front porch. I also bought a wreath for the front door and am pricing picture frames. I refuse to turn in my man card and inwill not answer to ďMister Stewart!Ē
