Thanks guys! First day was classroom policy review kind of stuff, today was actual patient care/learning about the unit. It's a hectic/busy unit so it should be fun and make the time pass quickly.

Good luck, Don. It's good to see that hard works pays off and good things happen sometimes.

Ha Ha, thanks guys. So far I've had 3 days 'on the floor' - and finally had a day with the the nurse who will be my preceptor (the one who will be guiding me and orienting me). 3 days in, and I've already done a bunch of things I never got to do in nursing school.

She's really cool, probably younger than me and is a good teacher. It's a tough environment to learn 'hard and fast' rules, so the bulk of it will be learning how to deal with all the various situations that pop up.

Congrats Don, hope it goes well for you.
I also hope you stay active on here better than I did when I went back to work.

Thanks WMY. I just re-read my last post...my preceptor is DEFINITELY younger than me....by 12 years, lol.

And it's still true, there are sooo many situational things to learn vs learning straight up things. Won't know how to do things until those situations happen/pop up. They were going to release me from orientation this weekend (3 weeks early), but there is still so much more to learn, I'm going to stay on for another 10 days.

I'm starting to see WHY they typically don't hire new nurses, but I think with some more experience I'll be able to get over that hump without much difficulty. Especially in such a supportive environment.
