Default Notre Dame cathedral fire

I'm in shock that something that was built centuries ago could be reduced to a ruin so quickly - but the news says they will rebuild. Tragic. :(

The wooden beams were 500 yrs old. Dry, dry dry.

Any word on the Hunchback? Did he make out safely?

It will never be the same. It took over 100 years to complete when new. Good luck.

There have been some interesting pics from today. It looks like the roof was majority of the damage.

I'm thinking the RC church had the $$ to restore the Cathedral.
Millionaires and billionaires pledging? Hmm.

Didn't you go to catechism? Tithe.

If Bill Gates were Catholic not only would he be able to rebuild it single handedly, but it would also have the fastest free WiFi on the planet.

In all seriousness, the works of art in Catholic churches throughout Europe were the standard in art history up until just a couple of hundred years ago. The works housed in and adorning the structure of Notre Dame were not just religious artifacts, they were priceless works of art. In some ways, it might have been slightly less tragic had the Louvre burst into flames. That the damage wasn't worse is almost a miracle.
