Default Mlb 2019

Just about that time of year!!! Brewers On Deck fanfest this Sunday. And just in time.....the masses are going apeshit over the announcement that beginning in 2021 Miller Park will be renamed American Family Insurance Stadium or some variation thereof. Lame, but knew it was coming.

The MLBPA sent a counter offer to the commissioner's office on proposed rule changes. On the table are the changes of:

1) A three-batter minimum for pitchers - bad idea. I know they want to limit pitching changes to quicken games. Still don't understand this obsession with making games last an hour and 15 minutes but this certainly isn't going to help. Whether you allow unlimited pitching changes or allow a lefty specialist or a starter to continue in a game when he's getting knocked around it doesn't really matter. Let's just say what they really want......More offense to make the game more exciting. AND Games that last an hour with an average a 9-7 score. Not sure you're going to get there.
2) A universal designated hitter - Don't like the DH, but this is coming. Grew up with the Brewers in the AL and the DH. Been in the NL since '98, was open to the change from the beginning, but I like the NL game better. Which proves I'm not just opposed to change.
3) A single trade deadline before the All-Star break - in favor of a single trade deadline. But needs to be later. Maybe August 15. Before the All-Star break is too early for teams to assess whether they are in the race or not. Think it will lead to teams punting earlier in the season, which isn't good for anyone.
4) A 20-second pitch clock - Pointless and a non-issue. Very few pitchers take more than 20 seconds to deliver a pitch. How exciting would a World Series game 7 be if it ended on a bases loaded pitch clock infraction in the bottom of the 10th inning!?
4) The expansion of rosters to 26 men, with a 12-pitcher maximum - Yes! I'd also add a 40 man roster beginning September 1, but only 28, or 29, maybe 30 can be active any single game.
5) Draft advantages for winning teams and penalties for losing teams - This would be for multiple years in a row, or X out or Y years. HMMMM??? Don't know. Would need to know more. Would be to discourage teams from reaping the benefits of revenue sharing, draft status, and then putting a 64 win team on the field. Might be okay.
6) A study to lower the mound/moving mound back - An advantage to the hitter. When you're looking to reduce the time of game to cater to "Millennials," who are more concerned if there's a kale-tofu dog with gluten free bun topped with avocado mash and an organic triple dry-hopped plum date IPA at the concession stand than anything that is going on on the field, to get the game over before they have to update their "status," more offense, hence increasing the time of the game seems counter intuitive. But whatever!
7) A rule that would allow two-sport amateurs to sign major league contracts - Sure.

Loved point #6 GBD!

I have said it before, why the hell are people hellbent on speeding up the game? Owners and TV stations make a lot more money with customers in the stadium or watching on TV. Tickets are so friggen expensive. Might as well get your bang for the buck. I know the Braves in their heyday played a good amount of games under 2 hours. But the games were boring.

Not a fan of the DH. Until someone opens a public Pitching Cage like Batting Cages that makes money I will never change my mind. I have no idea why the owners would be in favor of it since you usually have to hire a big money Big Bopper to fill the hole.

I have never been a fan of the 40 man roster for teams still in the hunt. Skews the possible outcome for a team using a player who will never get a real sniff in the bigs just because he has a special talent, like stealing a base when needed but can't hit a lick.

The 3 batter minimum is beyond stupid.
