How to list/describe SAHD on a resume? Any pointers guys? I'm not sure how to describe the last decade.

That's a tough one. Here's some of the skills I've picked up since having two boys:

- wet nurse (couldn't decided if "wiping @**es was a thing but it should be in corporate America IME)
- plumber
- dishwasher
- laundry worker (I take pride in not putting the reds in with the whites)
- short order cook (though I suck at it apparently)
- handyman (fixing leaks, changing light bulbs, etc.)
- personal care nurse
- non-board certified behavior analyst (aka a physchological therapist working withing the behavioral school of psychology but the test is really hard from what I hear)
- personal accountant (I do my autistic son's monthly expenses and have to file 3 reports a year.)
- drywall repair
- house painter
- carpet cleaner (specializing in "pet" stain removal)
- locksmith (at least I've installed a lot of doorknobs and know how to pick my way out of a locked room)
- carpenter (putting toys and children's furniture together should count toward that IMO)
- personal shopper (if I'm given a list of things by another person)

Kwak, you forgot Painter, Chauffer, and Search and Rescue team member.

Thanks for the list, man.

Do you think you need to list being a SAHD on your resume? If they ask why you could explain?

I use indeed all the time to look for additional work. See https://www.indeed.com/career-advice...rkforce-resume

I knew I forgot rescue team member. I think I got "house painter" though. Back when I had good eyesight I could draw but never developed the talent for brushes. Chauffeur was also left out. Thanks for the catch. I was thinking of getting a job with the USPS. I sort of fit the personality type.

Yep, I was able to get back into the workforce after 8 years or so being home. I listed my previous job experience on my resume and then just listed the other stuff I did (volunteer at school, landlord, went back to college). You're going to be asked, just be honest, people get it (and I'm in an alpha male type of industry). Hell, I've been back to work for 9 years now and still get asked about the gap from recruiters.

Try not to rely on applying on the internet at first though (I mean do it but don't solely rely on it), you're going to have to get in front of people. I did the internet thing at first but it wasn't until I started going to job fairs that I got my first real offer

Good luck TwoCubs!

Thanks, guys. It's been almost ten years. Just trying to kick the dust off of everything.

Yeah, time goes quick. It's been 18 for me. I got out of the workforce right before the last real estate bubble burst. God help me but I don't ever want to be a cubicle dweller ever again.
