Default Cable Modems

My wife, 14yo and I have been sharing the WiFI for the past year and lately it's been on the fritz in the early AM when we all log in. We're using the Arris Surfboard modem/router combo that they hooked us up with a few years ago and they increased the monthly rental charge from $10 a month to $15, so it's time for it to go.

Yesterday I went on Bestbuy.com and bought a Netgear AC1900 but it turns out it doesn't do our phone, and its wireless speeds are actually lower. I didn't realize this until after I opened it, but I didn't plug it in and I'm sure they'll take it. Is see they have another Arris product that is superior to the XFi gateway so I'll be swapping it.

I think I'm going to still drop the digital voice though. We barely use our landline (other than to talk to the in-laws and doctors) and don't use the digital voicemail at all. We still have an old fashioned answering machine. It's so cleansing to have a physical DELETE button for SPAM callers.

It's going to be so nice to get that monthly bill under $200.
